Meyer van der Walt was founded, in 2005, with the sole purpose of providing unparalleled service and developing on-going, successful relationships with each one of our diverse clients. Communication with our clients in order to understand, what our clients want, how they think and how disputes can be resolved quickly and cost effectively, is of paramount importance. We maintain high professional standards and are dedicated to technical excellence. With the assistance of this advanced information technology system and our dedicated team we manage to report to our existing client base on a weekly and/or monthly basis. In addition to the above our information technology system enables direct electronic access to deed registry searches. We are also able to conduct credit investigations, which includes extracting detailed information pertaining to judgement histories and credit enquiries.

Meyer van der Walt is a dynamic South African law firm with expertise in property and conveyancing law, administration of estates, notarial services and commercial law.

Our head office is based in Potchefstroom, with additional supporting branches in Klerksdorp.

Our firm is duly registered with the Legal Practice Council pursuant to the provisions of the Legal Practice Act 28 of 2014, as amended, holds Fidelity Fund Certificates in compliance with the provisions of the aforesaid act. Our firms in Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp are further duly registered in terms of the Value Added Tax Act 89 of 1991, as amended and Companies Act 71 of 2008, as amended, as amended, as incorporated entities.

Australia

Responding to the unique needs of the growing number of South Africans living in Australia and New Zealand, we are proud to offer services directly to our individual clients in these countries.

Many of our clients live and work abroad and therefore rely on us to assist them with their property and estate needs in South Africa.

To manage a transaction over great distances and borders goes hand in hand with various insecurities and risks for a client in the control and effective handling of a transaction. Contrary to these risks and insecurities, we offer a professional team, that is able to meet directly with clients in Australia and New Zealand regarding property and estate matters that require attention in South Africa.

Regarding property transactions, we are ready to assist from Australia and New Zealand with, among others, the following:

  • Receipt and handling of property transfers. The client can with confidence and from the comfort of his or her overseas home, interact directly with a representative of our firm, who will meet with and lead the client through the entire process until finalisation of transfer.
  • Transfer of funds at finalisation. To transfer capital funds from South Africa can be a time consuming and confusing process. We are equipped with the knowledge and experience to assist with the engagement with the South African Revenue Service and the eventual transfer of funds to the client’s overseas bank account.
  • Regarding deceased estates, we are ready to assist from Australia and New Zealand with, among others, the following:
    • Reporting of a deceased estate to the relevant Master’s office within South Africa, of the estate of a loved one or family member where there are still assets in South Africa which form part of the estate.
    • Obtaining the Letters of Executorship.
    • Winding up of a deceased estate to finality, and acceptance by the Master of the Final Liquidation and Distribution account.
    • Transfer of funds at finalisation.

Jason Edward Meyer

Director: Attorney, Notary & Conveyancer

Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp

Jason Meyer has obtained his BProc degree at the University of Pretoria in 1995 and was admitted in the High Court of South Africa as an Attorney and a Conveyancer in 1997. He was admitted as a Notary Public on 1999. In 2005 he was a co-founder of MVDW. and has been a Partner and then a Director of the firm since its inception. He has spent his career practicing in property and conveyancing, commercial law, wills and estates and notarial practice. In 2018 he was admitted to practice as a Solicitor and Barrister of the Supreme Court of South Australia and has recently expanded his practice to include assistance to the growing number of South Africans currently residing in Australia.

Francois van der Walt

Director: Attorney

Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp

Francois van der Walt obtained his B-Com degree at the North West University in 2000 and his LLB degree at the same institution in 2002. He was admitted in the High Court of South Africa as an Attorney in 2004. In 2005 he was a co-founder of the firm and has been a Partner and then a Director of the firm since its inception. He specialises in all areas of property law. He has substantial experience in drafting private and commercial sale agreements (sectional title, conventional and agricultural land), loan agreements and transfers; doing opinion work and supervising property transactions on behalf of all clients. His expertise lies in property law, and his extensive understanding of this field has enabled him to become an astute property lawyer.

Liesl Melanie Fourie

Director: Attorney & Conveyancer

Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp

Liesl Fourie has obtained her B-Com Economics and Law degree from the North West University in 2007, conferred cum laude, and then obtained her LLB degree at the same institution in 2009. She was admitted in the High Court of South Africa as an Attorney in 2010 and as a Conveyancer in 2012. She obtained her Masters of Law (LLM) in Commercial Law, with specialisation in banking law, company law, judicial management and insolvency. She joined MVDW in 2007 as a candidate attorney, then as an associate and later a Director of the firm. She specialises in all areas of property law, conveyancing, corporate- and commercial law and estate administration. She has managed various property developments from inception to finalisation thereof. She is currently broadening her knowledge by studying part-time at the University of the Free-State, a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning.

Anelda Viljoen

Attorney, Notary & Conveyancer

Anelda Viljoen obtained her LLB Degree at the North West University, in 2010. She was admitted in the High Court of South Africa as an Attorney in 2012, a Conveyancer in 2016 and a Notary Public in 2019. Anelda is a professional assistant at MVDW, specialising in mortgage bonds, bond cancellations, property transfers and the preparation of notarial documents. She has a passion for people and learning and strives for excellence.

Stealer Steenkamp

Attorney

Stealer Steenkamp obtained his BA Law degree, from the North West University in 2016 and his LLB degree at the same institution in 2018. He was admitted in the High Court of South Africa as an Attorney in 2021. His expertise extends to all aspects of property law, suggesting a comprehensive understanding of real estate, property transactions, and related legal matters. However, what truly sets him apart is his deep-seated passion for farm property and associated issues. His passion for this niche area of property law suggests that he has a profound understanding of the intricacies and challenges that clients may encounter in farm property transactions. Moreover, Stealer's strong leadership qualities and his ability to take charge of challenging situations provide clients involved in property transfers with a sense of immediate security. His philosophy, "mindset is everything," underscores his belief that a positive and determined mindset can conquer any problem.

Suanne Jacobs

Para-Legal

Suanne Jacobs completed her BA Law Degree at North West University in 2016. In 2018, she furthered her legal education at the same institution, obtaining her LLB. In 2019, she added a valuable touch to her qualifications by completing a six-month vocational training program through L.E.A.D., which was also offered at North West University. She is presently serving as a Para-Legal at Meyer van der Walt and is on her path to becoming a sworn-in Attorney.

Elke Human

Para-Legal

Elke Human obtained her BA Law degree from the North West University in 2019 and her LLB degree at the same institution in 2021. She is currently serving as a Para-Legal at MVDW with her goal to become an admitted attorney and conveyancer of the High Court. With a keen interest in real estate and property transactions, Elke strives to enhance her expertise, aspiring to deliver exceptional legal service. She has a passion for people aligning with a crucial value of the firm to provide remarkable service fitting each client’s needs.

Excelda Brink

Attorney

Excelda Brink obtained her LLB Degree at the University of South Africa, in 2018. She was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2020 , which provided her with a solid foundation in various legal disciplines. However, it is in the realm of property law that she has chosen to specialize and excel. Her role within the property development department of MVDW suggests that she is actively involved in facilitating and overseeing the legal aspects of property development projects. Additionally, her scope of practice also extends beyond the localities of Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp as she is equipped to handle property transactions and legal matters across a broader geographical area, which is a testament to her versatility and willingness to assist clients with their property-related needs.

Esté van den Heever

Para-Legal

Esté van den Heever obtained her LLB Degree from the University of South Africa (UNISA) in 2023. She completed her articles at MVDW the same year. In 2019, Esté completed a one-year course in deceased estates with the LSSA L.E.A.D’s School. Her interests include deceased estates, drafting of last wills and testaments, ante nuptial contracts, and conveyancing. Currently, Esté is serving as a Para-Legal at MVDW. In this role, she is gaining invaluable experience in the legal processes and client interactions that are pivotal to her growth as a legal professional. Her journey towards becoming an Attorney is marked by her commitment to excellence and her passion for the legal profession.

Anene Visser

Candidate Attorney

Anene obtained her LLB degree at the North West University of Potchefstroom, in 2022. She commenced her articles of clerkship at MVDW in 2023. She is currently serving her articles at MVDW, under the supervision of Francois van der Walt. With law being such a diverse profession, she has gained an interest in property law and conveyancing. In this profession of law, for her every day is a learning school and there is never a dull moment.
